Detached

Busy is a good word to describe these last two weeks, which is the reason why my posts are becoming more few and far between.
When the rain made Chanthaburi flood last month, it only got to a few feet, and days later, our town was back to normal; we're all safe.
I can't say the same for the many people whose homes are in Central Thailand and Bangkok. The flooding for them never stopped; it has broken the largest recorded flooding for Thailand. Many homes are full of water and people living in flooded areas are being relocated. However Thailand's dairy and water shortages are becoming a problem as it continues. To anyone in the US or otherwise, please tell anyone and everyone that can to contribute to help over here. It will be much appreciated. This week I will try to speak with the Rotarians and ask if I can join a team or if there is some way I can help the victims; I want to do more than dropping a few bills into a box.
Rotary couldn't be more right; the third month is the time where you become frustrated and everything looks awful. School has started to become less successful at taking care of the exchange students, the weather is much less nice. The only thing increasing is stress and inability to get a helpful response.
Honestly, I can speak no English in one whole day. But I haven't, because some don't understand if I speak Thai. I'd really like to not get replies in English, yet I need to learn what things mean.
Our school had a parade for sports day last Friday. So farang students of course were made to wear loads of make-up, an awkward Thai outfit, and enough hairspray to require a 15-minute battle with a shower head upon removal. Not to mention the hour's worth of standing stock-still in front of the merciless school leaders, or the PTSD that my arm muscles must now endure.
I am reading an American book these days, The Shack. I find it quite interesting and it constantly satisfies my reading "hunger pangs." I must be a nerd through and through because I am craving some good YA literature.
Our power went out last week from 1:30-2:30 at night. What great sleep that was. I woke up because I was overheating without the AC running, and so I charged through the utter darkness downstairs, to find that the one flashlight would be used in the living room. I couldn't bring myself to fall asleep in my jet black room upstairs, so I did my best to get comfortable on the wooden couch. I have found a soft blue blanket my host mom offered me and used it ever since; comforters just don't make sense when it's 35 C outside.
I meant to post this earlier. Our internet is being much more moody than any human I've seen here. My obscure pop music, Dara O Brien, and sharing with "back home" waits yet again. In the meantime, I have had a four-hour chat with my Mexican friend and wondered if I can ship myself off to Japan. You'd be surprised how cheap airfare is from BKK airport. Hey mom, I'd totally love to meet up with you in Osaka before returning in June... ;);)
November is coming up already?! The exchange students in 3340 will be going on a 5-day tour into Northeast mountain Phu Kradung in the middle of November. I'm not financially blessed enough to join my Rotary trips, but I'm hoping for the chance to sit back in the islands for a bit and snorkel.
If you're feeling cold right now, you better enjoy it thoroughly. Somebody in Thailand would gladly be freezing in your place.
