Christmas At 12° North

First of all, my Christmas was not cold, white, or remotely familiar, but never mind, because I've got the rest of my life for a chance at that. And only this year for a celebration with wonderful folks here in Thailand :)

**There's 3 days off for the New Year, but no school break for Christmas, as it is not recognized as a holiday.**

On Christmas Eve, my good friend Victoria came to my house and we listened to some good ol' music while making macaroni and cheese! Very, very delicious and I still can't believe how much we ate. My bedroom was a movie theater of sorts as we watched The Grinch (live action), A Charlie Brown Christmas, and Miracle on 34th Street. All cheery movies but I'm a bit sad we fell asleep so late, as we didn't end up watching a certain beloved Tim Burton movie...

Christmas day started with sleeping in! Past my skype date, oops. Breakfast was leftover noodles and we set up a "tree and gifts" right on my bed to create the mood. As Victoria and I skyped our families we opened the packages they so lovingly gave us. First thing I did with my gifts was eat the Skittles, lovely precious love~

My friend named Gun invited Fai from France and Jay from Alabama to his house for Christmas, and Victoria and I got invited to spend Christmas day with them. We first visited Namtokpliu Waterfall again, but we arrived too late for a group swim. Once at Gun's house, the five of us gathered 'round the punching bag. I requested help in how to kick and punch. Turns out, I'm incapable of roundhouse kicking, but not too shabby at other things. We helped cook the food, and me and Victoria got to handle a gun in the process! I was shown how to shoot, but the gun's sound was unnecessarily loud, in my humble opinion. It looked very nice, but I'm glad his dad didn't put any ammo in when it was my turn.

Christmas dinner was far from ordinary. Carbonara, crab noodles, pork soup stuff, french fries, the best pepsi, turkey at the end. I'm not going to lie to you, I will forever grieve over future turkeys because nothing could hope to match that perfect turkey meat.

For the gift exchange, I bought a 10-dollar gift of a pen and two movies: Mr. Bean and Let The Right One In, a Swedish film. The gift I received was a lamp with a penis. How fun, a glowing man with a lampshade over his face.....to turn it on you flicked the erm, appendage. I'd have a photo but I forgot to take one in my state of being disturbed. After some philosophy, comedy, and mad piano skills (no not me just YouTube), we tried to hit the hay. 2am, on the floor of a small bedroom. With a dark closet that refused to shut.

The 26th was a fun day too, even though breakfast was not. We lazed around a bit, and then we walked to Gun's grandma's house. We each got a go at using a Thai-style noisemaker, so cool!! Gun's grandma attached the noisemaker to a kite, and we watched as the kite raised and howled with the wind. After we finished with the kite, we explored the yard, finding a bunny and some very strange ducks. Well, white birds with red skin on their faces.

I've decided to make egg nog and shortbread cookies for New Year's, if it's even possible; we seem to be lacking a mixer. You can't just have un-fluffy treats. In the meantime, I found a true rarity: nacho corn chips. CORN CHIPS guys :D
