And it was amazing.
Get jealous.
My accomodation during last weekend was a small, modern, cold apartment of Bik, my Canadian friend's older host brother. First, let me say that it's cold because the air conditioning was blasting, and that Bik is a really enjoyable guy who could speak good English and was uber kind for letting us stay on his couch... and floor. To Bpin, my apologies.
In previous weeks it is true that I've visited Bangkok. That visit was just a short one and included the shopping bustling fast food side of the city. This time, I had three full days and a plan. My friend and I crossed streets together, ate meat together, got muscle cramps together, and nearly passed out from the heat. And what we saw of Old City and the river Chao Phraya makes all the pain seem still painful, but in the same way guilt doesn't bother those who just stole millions from a bank.
Old City neighborhood has many historical valuable buildings and the country's most famous temples. The Grand Palace was closed for a cremation rememberance of Her Majesty The Princess, so the guards let tourists in to the Emerald Buddha Temple for free! Instead of the normal 350baht. Since I'm such a smart genius, I knew that using the Chao Phraya as transportation would be both refreshing and money saving. When you're on the express boats you really can see some of the "real" lifestyles that the people lead. Of course, those moments are criss-crossed with views of really expensive hotels and the temples you're about to enter. And enter we did to the western side of the city, where the Temple Of The Dawn (Wat Arun) lay before us just as the sun set :)
Terminal 21 was our favorite downtown spot. The building is a fake airport with each floor bringing a unique slice of the world to you. Not a huge selection of food, but enough to keep you eating eating shopping shopping until you forget you're supposed to be getting to sleep.
See the Buddha that we couldn't give you pictures of.

Did the fish tickle your legs and feet?
ReplyDeleteYES. I spent 15 minutes straight like that but at first it was really intense.
