*note* - I cannot type in Thai, so all Thai script is from Google translate....blame them for errors!
When I leave in a few days from Oregon (rotary district 5110) to Thailand (rotary district 3340), I will be constantly "scaling" a language barrier. Thankfully, I've already started, and I would like to teach you some Thai, so you recognize some common phrases....
Sa-wad-dee-ka! = สวัสดี = Hello! (but, the "ka" is only used by females; if you're male, end your phrases with "krap")
sa bai dee mai ka? = ทำไปดีไม่ = is it going well for you?
sa bai dee :) Is usually the response, which basically means "I'm good"
but,
If you're feeling ick, you can say "chan leu sook mai dee" = ฉันรู้สึกไม่ดี = i don't feel good.
*note* - If you use "chan", you must be female, for Thai has a male and a female version of I, myself, me, etc "pom" goes at the beginning if you're not a girl.
chan chuu Clarissa = Clarissaที่ชื่อฉัน = my name is Clarissa. (of course, don't say this if you have a different name than me....)
khun chuu a-lai ka? = คุณชื่อะไร = what is your name?
yin-dee tee dai ruk-jak = ยินดีที่ได้รู้จัก = nice to meet you
That's all for now, folks. I may include a few more posts while I'm still in the States. Oh, and my first host family has high-speed internet :D So....that narrows down my excuses....
